EL PROYECTO "ENTROPY CITY: AN APPROACH TO URBAN BLIGHT" SELECCIONADO PARA UIA CONFERENCE TOKYO 2011

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research is based on an analysis of the deterioration of the city as a physical, political and social space, considering it as the site of action and the land of opportunity. Starting from an evaluation of the environmental, economic and social costs of urban blight it is possible to address it by activating systems to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The aim is to put forward energy saving strategies based on maintaining a certain threshold or minimum level of order capable of keeping an urban environment in operation with no loss of information. At the same time, it attempts to foster a change of mentality towards a new concept of development dissociated from the idea of growth. The purpose is twofold. On the one hand, research, design, experimentation of a technology-based system to improve the management of urban infrastructure. On the other, social activation of efficient, responsible and democratic use of public space. These two conditions would provide a creative impetus for generating new services and stimuli through which redefining the environments of the city of the future. This research project proposes the scenario of a new urban landscape where materiality gives way to information (Dematerialised City).
